My name is Amber Zofío and I fancy myself an “Illustrative Designer.” I have spent years trying to separate the two from each other but it just isn’t in the cards for me. My designs almost always have a touch of illustration to them and my illustrations are just well thought out designs, ha!

I am primarily based out of the Central Coast of sunny California. However, the best part of my job is that I can work anywhere in the world and I take advantage of this wonderful career characteristic as often as I can! I have lived and worked in Spain, Italy and Turkey illustrating and designing everything from children’s books to food trucks, annual reports and logos. I used to teach Photoshop at a community college and a Sip ‘N Paint class at a winery. I am always available to consider a new career opportunity in the creative industry.

I have always been “the artist.” Even from the early days when all the other kids were selling lemonade during the summer, I was selling custom drawings out of my radio flyer for a quarter a piece in front of my grandmother’s house (Grandma was my best client). I graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA with honors in Art & Design. I then started to travel the world and landed in Spain where I met the love of my life. I worked and studied there, completing a Spanish language program at La Complutense in Madrid, Spain and later a masters certificate in Web design and development at CICE, in Madrid.

I receive my inspiration from the people and experiences that fill my life from my husband and two sons, travel, random meetings, and the all the little things from just living. I love learning through confusion; it’s difficult and frustrating at first, but I know that I will remember those lessons the most. I’m very detail oriented and a perfectionist when it comes to my work, however I have a messy desk space that would make streamline designers cringe. I have come to realize that I am not fully comfortable, or efficient in a workspace until I have stacks of haphazard books and papers, small piles of erasers shavings, and a permanent moisture ring on the table from my unending mugs of espresso and vanilla chai.

My ultimate designer dream is to continue the ability to work anywhere and with anyone. I fancy myself a free spirit of sorts and I feel if I put myself in a box then the creativity and vitality of life will cease…I think I have a lot to offer the world, and I hope I can do my part to serve in the areas where I can do the most good.
