PROJECT

  • Illustration: Truck One: 7′ x 21′ side of a food truck, plus back door panel
  • Illustration: Truck Two: 4 sides of catering truck

CHALLENGE
By far this has to be one of the COOLEST projects I have ever been a part of! Picture this: A french business guy….and a Mexican doctor gal fall in love…The French guy moves to Mexico to be with his beloved…The French guy opens up a “taco truck” that serves French food in Ensenada!!! They hire THIS GAL to draw a mural that covers almost the entire surface of the taco truck. (SO COOL) Everyone lives happily ever After!

The only Requirements that were put upon me for this project were that the illustration contain BOTH French and Mexican Stereotypes, and that the back door have a Parisian Metro entrance with the stop “Ensenada.” I could only used red, white and blue like in the French flag, and had to incorporate their existing logo. The rest was up to me. This was my canvas…

SOLUTION
To start I sketched out many renditions with different stereotypes and then created the sketch below. Knowing that this artwork would be printed on vinyl and adhered to the side of the truck I wanted to make sure that the quality was not compromised and created the illustration in vectors. The client loved the realistic cartoon style. I made sure to have escargot, painters, tequila and mariachi present. I also worked in some lovers kissing on the street which happens to be portraits of the lovely owners.

RESULT
The Stationary food truck was a HUGE success! It was number one on Trip Adviser in Ensenada for a year! The restaurant still thrives today, although under new ownership. However, before handing over the reins our young couple commissioned me for one more truck illustration that would be their catering and events truck! This time it was a mobile icecream truck that was converted!

I was asked to recreate the french countryside filled with lavender fields. The client wanted the truck to look like it was a 1985 French Citroen, and to place the three owners inside taking a joy ride. “Voilá!” Le PETIT Pinche Frances. You can read more about this particular truck HERE.
