It is Jeanettie’s family’s hope that someday everyone will treat each other equally and that the disabled will not be labeled as retard, cripple, dummy, or even noticed that a disability exists. The truth is that whether you’re disabled or not, everyone should be treated with equal respect.

Hand Puppets  by EasyChildCrafts.com

Materials:

  • A printer–our template comes in pdf form
  • Construction paper, white printer paper or foam sheets (which is what we used to decorate our puppets)
  • Pieces of felt or material
  • Scissors
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Glue stick, white glue or a glue gun (adult supervision required)
  • Markers, crayons, colored pencils (your choice)
  • Download Hand puppet template (to the left)

Instructions:

  • Print out the template for the basic pattern.
  • Cut out the template. Pin it to a piece of felt or other fabric and cut out two pieces.
  • Glue or sew the two felt/fabric pieces together.
  • Decorate the other template pieces to your liking using either crayons, colored pencils, markers or colored foam sheets.
  • Use pictures as reference for the placement of the body parts on the hand puppet.
  • Create your own unique creature or person puppet.
  • That’s it….let the glue dry before you start playing and performing with your puppets!

Activities for puppets:

  • Act out a storybook and create a new ending.
  • Practice script to preform as a puppet play.
  • Watch YouTube videos of puppet plays for example.
  • Go to see a live puppet show.
  • Explore joke books to learn new jokes to use in your puppet skits.
  • Construct your own puppet theatre. Appliance boxes work really well.
  • Start a collection of puppets and define the personality traits they will protray in plays.
